Agro Meteorological Advisories
(Period 2 to 6 Sept. 2011)
Contingent Crop Planning :
For last few days good rainfall has been received hence stagnated water from field and orchards should be drained out by proper drainage channels considering slope of field. Good rains have been received in drought prone areas, hence considering the shortage of forage and fodder in this area sowing of fodder crop varieties of jowar crop like Ruchira, Phule Amruta; Maize varieties like African Tall, Manjari Composite, of Pearlmillet like Jiant Bajra should be sown. |
Sunflower :
During morning hours preferably between 7 am to 11 am forehand covered with cloth should be rubbed gently over the inflorescence of sunflower plant for better seed setting, which will ultimately lead to good yield. |
Green gram and Black gram (mung and udid) :
Harvest the mature pods of green gram and black gram crop and store them at proper dry place. Sundry the pods in sunlight and then separate the seeds from pods. The rabi season starts from September month. After harvesting the kharif crops like green gram and black gram immediately plan and carry out preparatory tillage operations for cultivating rabi crops like rabi sorghum, gram, safflower etc. present climatic conditions are very good for rabi crops. Consider the land kept for cultivation of rabi crops and plan accordingly. Select the crop varieties which mature early, whose water requirement is less and are disease and pest resistant for rabi season. Spread well decomposed cowdung 5 to 6 tones per hectare over the field and mix it well in the soil by cultivating the field. Keep the field clean by collecting the stubbles and unwanted materials. In this way prepare the field for cultivating the rabi crops. Sowing of rabi crops should be done considering soil moisture condition of soil.

Rabbi Sorghum – (Jowar) :
The period after 15th september is favourable for sowing rabi sorghum. The crop sown during this period would receive rainfall in the month of September which gives high yield of crop. For sowing of rabi sorghum varieties likeMaldandi 35-1, Selection-3, Phule Vasudha, Phule Revati, Phule Yashodha and Mauli are very good varieties. Mauli variety gives good result in medium soil. This new variety matures early and gives good yield. Sow the crop at 45 cm x 15 cm distance by double bowl seed drill. Use 10 kg seed per hectare for cultivation. Add 12 CL FYM into the soil before sowing. Give the seed treatment of Azotobacter to the seed before sowing. Apply the fertilizer dose of50 kg N & 25 kg P at the time of sowing. Give half dose at time of sowing and half dose 30 days after sowing. Apply 25 kg N & 25 kg P at the time of sowing. Give second dose of 25 kg nitrogen after one month of sowing. Do sowing with double bowl seed drill for sowing seed and fertilizer at a time. |
Onion :
At some places it has been seen the infestation of thrips on onion crop, for its control spray phippronil 500 ml or spinosad 250ml in 500 litre of water. For control of dieback bacterial disease of onion spray 1% bordo mixture. While spraying insecticide use 10 ml of sticker per 10 liter of water.
Paddy :
At some places paddy crop in tillering stage has been affected by leaf blight disease, for its control spray 10 gm carbendenzim per 10 lit of water + 10 ml of sticker.
Cotton :
The apical bud of main stem of cotton crop of 70 to 80 days old should be cut and leaves at the bottom of plant near soil should be alternately cut. Carry out hoeing operation and eradicate the weeds from standing crop. Due to interculturing operations i.c hoeing the evaporation from soil is minimized. To control the attack of thripps, jassids and white fly on cotton crop spray phippronil 500 ml or spinosad 250ml or trizophos 1000ml in 500 litre of water. |
Groundnut :
There is attack of tikka and rust disease on groundnuts crop. Due to this disease, the black spot occurs on leaves and yellow circle forms around the spot. The virus forms on that spot. For control of this disease spray copper powder 80% 2 kg per 500 lit of water per hectare. Spray carbedenzin 0.05% or Macnozeb 0.25% or 0.1% Decarthconozol or 0.1% cyproconozol Same dose is repeat after 15 days. |
Papaya :
Papaya plant is susceptible to foot rot bacterial disease if water is stagnated at its base trunk foot. Hence drain out water from the field and apply 4 to 5 kg of trichoderma fungi developed on sorghum (jowar) seeds to the soil. |
Tomato :
re is attack of Buckeye rot disease on tomato crop. To avoid the intensity of this disease, destroy the disease affected fruits and spray Metalaxil 8% + Mancozeb 64% combine these bacterialcide 20 gm per 10 lit of water at an interval of 10 days, take two sprays. For control of white flies spray Trizophos 40 EC 20 ml per 10 lit of water. |
Chilli :
For control of wilt disease of chillies apply copper oxychloride 25gm or carbendenzem 20 gm per 10 litre of water in ring basin method. |
Bloating in Animals and Control Measure :
Excessive feeding of green forage leads to bloating of stomach in cows and buffaloes. Due to which in extreme cases the animal may suddenly die. Hence give primary first aid to the animal with consulting the veterinary doctor : 1) Mix ginger juice 30 ml + formalin 8 ml in 250 ml of water and drench it slowly in mouth of the animal. 2) Mix 30 to 40 ml of terpentile oil in 500 ml of water and give it to older animals. |
