The Krishi Vigyan Kendra Baramati, Dist Pune, Maharashtra is chosen for the prestigious National KVK Award along with KVK Kharpudi Dist Jalana Maharashtra for the year 2006-2007. The award is instituted by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi.
The Krishi Vigyan Kendra Baramati is established by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi at Agricultural Development Trust Baramati District Pune for speedy transfer of technology to the farmers’ fields. The operational area of this Krishi Vigyan Kendra comes under the western Maharashtra dry Zone.
KVK Baramati organizes need- based training programs and conducts several demonstrations on farmers’ fields on technologies released by research institutes. It also conducts other extension activities like Kisan mela, study tours, field days etc.
It is nothing but one stop shop of agriculture where the farmer gets the technology & the inputs together, biofertilizers like Azotobacter, PSB, Rhizobium etc., Biopesticides such as HNPV, bioagents, vermicompost, urea briquettes, grafts of improved varieties and seed of latest varieties of cereals, pulses & oilseeds.
This center provides online services & detailed information on market rates for agricultural commodities through out the state of Maharashtra. It also provides weather forecast information through mobile sms to farmers.
Plant health clinic that provides farm consultancy services of all types free of cost to farmers.
For effective and faster dissemination of information and promoting group dynamics in agriculture this Center has established Farmers Clubs in Pune and Satara districts.
Testing of soil, water and petiole is also undertaken by the soil laboratory, based on analysis the experts provides the recommendations with regards to nutrient management and reclamation.
There are more than sixteen thousand farmers get benefited by KVK Baramati. This KVK is found to be successful in dissemination of technologies like irrigation management with water storage tanks, Hi-tech horticulture technology, organic farming practices, use of sugarcane trash as a manure, use of improved varieties, integrated farming, analyzing the fertilizer dose according to soil testing, liquid fertilizer application etc technologies.
